Only months ago, Lupita Nyong’o became the sixth black woman and the first African actress to win the Oscar for best supporting actress. She won the Academy award for the historical drama ’12 years a slave’ and has since become fashion’s It Girl, winning lots of fans outside the movie industry for her glamorous appearances on the red carpet and sweet persona during talk shows.

Lupita is a reminder that black is beautiful, skin color or race should not discourage anyone from going after their dreams despite the unending racism in the entertainment/fashion/modeling industry. Like Lupita reminded us with her words during her acceptance speech at the Oscars; ‘No matter where you are from, your dreams are valid’. She is of dual Mexican and Kenyan citizenship, she holds a bachelor’s degree in film and theatre studies from Hampshire college and a masters degree in acting from Yale school of drama.

Amongst her numerous awards, she was named most beautiful person in the world for the year 2014 by People magazine and has also been announced as the new brand ambassador for luxury cosmetic brand, Lancome. I can’t wait to see her first campaign this summer!..and more movies with her in it hopefully not as a slave, mother wolf or stewardess 🙂
