5 Bloggers Take On How To Dress According To Your Body Shape

No two people are shaped the exact same way, did you know this?. A few weeks ago, 5 Abuja-based bloggers teamed up to put together a guide on how to dress according to your body shape through a photoshoot.

Sarah of Princess Audu | Larisa of Larisa Le Fleur | Eno of Uyai By Eno | Alma of The Style Cheapskate

I was one of the bloggers thanks to Sarah who came up with the idea. When she informed me about the theme for the collaboration, I was thrilled because the closest to this on the blog is how to choose the right skirt for every occasion.

More ideas flow when you collaborate with other people. Plus, it’s more fun than coming here to tell you about body shapes and what to wear without reference to people you can relate to. The shoot also gave me an opportunity to meet Alma and Eno in person.

If you remember, I met Sarah and Larisa for the first time at Lafiya lifestyle expo. After that, I met Sarah again at the Art Lovers event. So, let’s talk about how to dress according to your body shape.

First of all, do you know your body shape? It’s quite easy to dress up daily and look good without actually knowing what your body shape is.

Honestly, I had to Google my body shape for this post when Sarah asked us to state our body shapes for reference. I came across an online calculator that uses measurement (bust-waist-hips) to get one’s body type.

Now I know my body type. You should too. Keep in mind that the body shape changes with weight gain. Let’s take the body shapes one after the other.

How To Dress According To Your Body Shape

Banana, Straight or Rectangular: This body shape describes a person (in this case, me and Sarah)who typically has waist measurements less than 9 inches smaller than the hip or bust measurements.

How To Dress: Styles that are belted or cinched at the waist to highlight your curves since the lower body is slimmer.

*Note that: I’m also tall.

Apple (Triangle Downwards): This describes a person who has broader shoulders, bust and upper back than hips. In this collaboration, Alma is an example.

How To Dress: Styles that do not particularly draw attention to your waistline or add more volume.

Hourglass (triangles opposing, facing inwards): This body shape is often described as “ideal”. A person with hip and bust measurements nearly equal in size with narrower waist.

Larisa is an example of someone with this body shape. She’s also petite.

How To Dress: Styles that highlight the waistline and doesn’t add volume.

Pear or spoon or bell (triangle upwards): This body shape describes a person who has hip measurements greater than their bust measurements. In this collaboration, that is Eno. She’s also plus size.

How To Dress: Styles that draw attention more to the upper body. Layered tops and cinched waist, Bust-enhancing necklines like sweetheart, etc.

We might not have worn typical clothes/styles to highlight our body shapes for this post. However, the whole idea was bringing together people with different body shapes.
